Chapter 01
Composite fillings
A cavity does not go away on its own, and the longer it sits the more of the tooth it usually takes with it. A composite filling removes the decayed part of the tooth and rebuilds the missing structure with a tooth-colored resin, shaped and polished to match the tooth around it. Most fillings at Southridge Dental Care are done in a single visit, numbed first so the only thing you notice afterward is that the tooth is whole again.
Dr. Christopher Martinez, who took over the practice at 1000 Wigwam Parkway in 2026, handles routine restorative work himself, and Amy, the practice's hygienist, is often the one who flags a soft spot on an X-ray during a regular cleaning long before it turns into anything bigger. That is the real reason the practice keeps pushing the six-month visit: most fillings start as something small.

Crowns and root canal therapy
A crown covers a tooth that has lost too much structure for a filling to hold, whether from a large cavity, a crack, or a tooth that has already had a root canal. Once it is placed, a crown behaves like the rest of your teeth: it needs regular brushing and flossing around the gum line, where a crown margin can otherwise trap plaque the same as any natural tooth, and it is worth avoiding using it to crack ice or open packaging, which is a common way a crown gets loosened years after it was set.
Root canal therapy comes up when the nerve inside a tooth is infected or badly inflamed, usually from decay that reached the center of the tooth or from an old crack. Dr. Martinez trained in root canal therapy during his General Practice Residency at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, alongside implants and full-arch restorative work, so it is treated in the office rather than referred out for most cases. The tooth is then almost always finished with a crown, since a tooth that has had a root canal tends to be more brittle than one that hasn't.

Chapter 03
Dentures, partials and fixed bridges
Missing teeth get replaced a few different ways, and which one makes sense usually comes down to how many teeth are gone and where. A fixed bridge anchors a replacement tooth to the healthy teeth on either side of the gap. A partial denture is removable and fills in several missing teeth at once without touching the ones that remain. A complete denture replaces an entire arch when most or all of the natural teeth are gone.
None of these are one-size answers, which is why Dr. Martinez walks through the options at the exam rather than assuming the priciest one is the right one.
